The Steacie Library Hackfest strives to provide a welcoming space that nurtures presentation skills, facilitates networking opportunities, and gives participants an opportunity to experience a hackathon. To keep this space welcoming and to allow everyone involved to benefit, it is important that the Hackfestbe a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of technical skill level, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, physical appearance, ethnicity, religion or other group identity. Sexualized language and imagery is not appropriate at any time, including in presentations.
It is imperative for all involved to remain committed to civil discourse and the free exchange of ideas, both technical and non-technical, with a fundamental respect for the dignity of all persons. Recognizing that this is a shared responsibility of all participants, involvement in the Hackfest requires each individual to commit to maintaining a positive environment that is safe for everyone.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the organizing team immediately. The organizers may then take any action they deem appropriate to address the harassing behaviour, including warning the offender or expelling the offender from the Hackfest.
This Code of Conduct does not replace the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities (https://secure.students.yorku.ca/sites/secure/pdf/CodeofRightsandResponsibilities.pdf) which applies to students and the Policies on Workplace Harassement (http://secretariat-policies.info.yorku.ca/policies/workplace-harassment-policy/) and Workplace Violence (http://secretariat-policies.info.yorku.ca/policies/workplace-violence-policy/) which apply to employees of York University.
